Sweet rope
Heavy duty and a brand i trust especially with my climbing line. Defintley will be buying more of samson for my other rope needs.
New favorite rope
I use this Samson rope for a lanyard/secondary climbing system (25’). It is EXTREMELY hard wearing, but has great hand feel. Unfortunately it can’t be hand spliced… makes no difference to me though.
Not so static
Akimbo works wonderfully on this because it is so stiff. Difficult to knot and very stretchy for a kernmantle “static rope” so not the greatest for long ascent
Love this rope.
Samson Mercury 7/16", 2nd only to the Bifrost in my opinion. Small diameter is my favorite thing about it. Only issue I had was I made the mistake of using it for a crane because I forgot my 24 strand and it glazed pretty badly through the ball. Other than that the rope is STRONG, looks cool, fits into a bag great, the list goes on. Have recommended this rope more times than I can remember.
Static!!!
One of the best static lines I have ever used. There is virtually no stretch. The rope is so easy to work from especially for limb walking. You just feel super solid when ascending and decending! if you can use a small diameter rope then Samson Mercury is the rope for you! I will say it didn't work great with the petzl zig zag. Obviously it is because of the small diameter! Runs great in about all of the other mechanical devices!
Great rope
So far so good I've done two climbs with this rope so far. Samson Mercury works unbelievably well with the rope runner so smooth its silly. Using hitch cord seems to be a little bit iffy but I attribute that to being brand new. Once it breaks in a little I'm sure it'll be just fine.
Almost Too Good
Samson Mercury is one of those unprecedented ropes. It's stupid strong for such a small diameter, and has a fantastic hand. I use it as a lanyard line and it flips very well and is surprisingly durable, while being very hi-vis for easy identification in the tree. Runs through ascenders like butter...can't find anything to complain about.
