The AWAH Z3-Fire is an innovative multi-functional device which combines the features of a drill powered ascender, rescue compliant descender, and progress capture pulley into one compact and light-weight unit.

The AWAH Z3-FIRE is powered by a hand drill and attached to the operator, solving the problems of other powered ascenders, without proprietary batteries or motors.  It is the only powered ascender certified as work-positioning PPE. It is rated under EN 12841 and ANSI Z359.9 for daily rope access work!

The 11mm wheel grips enough to take you up the rope and is slippery enough to let you back down. Few devices are capable of going up and down with the same wheel.

What safety features does the AWAH Z3 Fire offer?

The AWAH Z3 features a dual self-locking system. In case the primary gear mechanism fails, a backup lock engages within 10 cm of descent, preventing free fall. It has been tested with 285 kg loads generating up to 5.69 kN impact force (2G simulation), ensuring maximum reliability in emergencies.

How durable is the AWAH Z3 Fire?

Designed for long-term use, the AWAH Z3 includes corrosion-resistant stainless steel components and a modular structure for easy part replacement (e.g., rope wheel, gear set). It has passed rigorous impact fracture tests up to 9.08 kN, significantly reducing maintenance needs over time.

What kind of applications is the AWAH Z3 Fire suitable for?

The AWAH Z3 is versatile enough for industrial lifting (e.g., warehouse or construction work) and emergency rescue (e.g., firefighting, high-rise evacuation). The Z3 FIRE’s 285 kg capacity and compact form factor make it highly adaptable to demanding scenarios.

How does the AWAH Z3 Fire compare to traditional manual hoists?

The AWAH Z3 reduces physical strain by up to 80% using a drill-powered drive, while offering precise control. Its automatic locking system eliminates the need for continuous manual braking. Compared to traditional pulley systems, it doubles lifting efficiency.

    What drill works best?

We recommend the Milwaukee 1/2" Hammer Drill (DO NOT use hammer mode) or any similar drill with similar torque will work.  You MUST NOT use an impact drill as you will tear up the gears.  The unit comes with 5/16" hex bits that intentionally DO NOT fit in 1/4" impact drivers.   We recommend a brushless drill or it could burn up the drill by creating too much heat on long ascents.

    What battery works best?

We recommend Milwaukee M18 batteries, specifially the 8ah Battery for many hours of work.

Comparing the AWAH Z3-Fire and the AWAH Z2 Arborist

Lowering Control:  Z3 Fire uses a handle to gradually move the rope away from the pinch point for smooth lowering.  Z2 Arborist requires wrapping the rope around friction arms and fully releasing the gears which is less smooth.

Gears:  Z3 Fire and Z2 Arborist have the same gear ratio.  The Z3 Fire wheel is stationary while lowering, so the drill can be left in the unit while rappelling (YOU MUST USE a tool leash). This is great for up and down rope work.  The Z2 Arborist wheel has to spin freely when lowering so the drill must be removed each time you want to lower.

Waterproof:  Z3 Fire is IP66 waterproof.  Z2 Arborist is NOT waterproof.  If water gets inside the gears will rust.
